Thailand has caused a stir once again by implementing a new regulation that requires foreign tourists to pay a "Tourist Fee" upon entry into the country. This comes after the recent cancellation of regulations regarding 2 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine certificate. The new regulation was introduced in the second week of January 2023 and has sparked a lot of debate among the Thai public.

The fee, which is known as the "Sustainability Fee," will be 300 Baht or approximately $9 per person and will be enforced starting in June 2023. While some argue that this fee will help develop tourism in Thailand, others believe it will only burden tourists visiting the country. Regardless of the opinions, tourists will have to pay the fee if they wish to vacation in Thailand.

Based on the statement made by Tourism Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, the Tourist Fee must be paid by individuals who are visiting Thailand for a holiday. Those who have a work visa are exempt from paying this fee.

It is estimated by the Thai government that more than 25 million foreign tourists will visit the country in 2023. Therefore, the approval of this regulation has become an urgent matter.
