Sony Reon Pocket, a portable mini air conditioner that can be tucked under a shirt, has been released and marketed in Japan. Initially, this device was planned to be released during the Tokyo 2020 Olympics which was supposed to be held from July 23 to August 8 but was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Sony Reon Pocket measures 11.6 x 5.4 x 2 cm and can be purchased as a set including a custom t-shirt. The shirt has a pocket on the upper back. The way this cooler works is by pumping heat through the Peltier Effect and is claimed to be able to lower temperatures by up to five degrees Celsius in hot weather. Reon Pocket also has a mobile application for both Android and iOS (iPhone) that can adjust the use of the mini AC machine either manually according to user convenience or adjust automatically.
In winter, it can also be used for the opposite purpose, namely heating the body temperature under clothing to seven degrees Celsius. This device is operated by battery power and can function for 2-4 hours depending on usage. It takes 2 hours to fully charge the battery.
Sony Reon Pocket sells for 13,000 yen or around IDR 1.7 million. On Amazon Japan this tool is sold at a higher price, around IDR 2.3 million and does not include the price of a special t-shirt for IDR 400,000.
