Constructed by Albert Zimmerman, a renowned architect of his time, Immanuel Protestant Church was erected in 1924 and finished a year later. It was initially known as Bubutan Protestant Church due to its location at the intersection of Bubutan street.

The Immanuel Protestant Church in Surabaya was originally named "Protestantsche Kerk" or "Nederlandsch Hervormde Kerk" during the Dutch colonial period. However, it was renamed the Protestant Church of West Indonesia after 1948. Despite being almost a century old, the building has undergone only minor renovations and has maintained its original structure. Inside the church, visitors can find two Bibles printed in 1618 AD that are over 500 years old.
