Professor Eizaburo Ueno, an academic residing in the city, would often accompany his journey to Shibuya station to commute to teach at Tokyo Imperial University. And every time, Hachikō, the faithful Akita dog, would wait for him at the station to return home.

As time passed, Hachikō's loyalty to Professor Ueno remained steadfast. Every day, at 3 pm, Hachikō would be at the station to greet his master's return. Even after Professor Ueno's sudden death on May 21, 1925, Hachikō continued to wait at the station, hoping his master would come back.
