History and Renovations: There Was A Dutch Fort
The mall first opened in 1992 and has since undergone several renovations. The last renovation was completed in 2016, which added a new food court and updated the overall look of the mall. Plaza Surabaya is currently one of the largest malls in Indonesia, with more than 200 shops and restaurants.
This mall has a rich history. It was initially built on the site of a Dutch fort which was destroyed during the Indonesian War of Independence. The fort was rebuilt after the war, and a mall was built over it.
The mall has gone through a lot of changes over the years. In 1998, it underwent a significant renovation which added a new wing to the mall. This wing includes a food court and additional retail space.
In 2006, another renovation took place, adding an outdoor square to the mall. The plaza features a fountain and a seating area. The most recent renovation took place in 2016 and added a new cinema complex to the mall.
