Every day thousands of devotees dressed in their finest clothes come to Mahamuni Pagoda, the main temple in the city of Mandalay. Here they honor the 6.5-tonne seated Buddha Mahamuni, and the world's largest, located in the center of the complex.

It is interesting to watch the women pray in the middle of the pavilion in their colorful costumes, while the men approach the statue to install the famous gold leaf.

Legend has it that this statue is one of only five made during Siddhartha Gautama's earthly life, two of which are in heaven and the other two are in India.
