In 1864, Kapitein Be Koen Wie or Be Tjok Lok established the Liong Hok Bio Temple on his property, which he transformed into a place of worship. The Diponegoro war's conclusion in 1830 led to the founding of this pagoda, and Be Tjok Lok relocated to Magelang from Solo.

Be Tjok Lok's active participation in the war earned him a Lieutenant rank and a share of inherited land, one of which was situated in the northern region of Magelang Square. The Tiong Hwa Hwee Kwan/THHK foundation currently manages the Liong Hok Bio Temple.

Another alluring feature of the temple is the largest Hio in Southeast Asia, weighing 3.8 tons. Chinese worshipers use Hio, an incense, in their religious practices.
