A brief history of Harry's Café de Wheels
Harry's Café de Wheels has proudly served customers for over 80 years, with the likes of Frank Sinatra, Sir Elton John, and Prince Harry among the many who have made Tiger Pie their favorite dish.
The founder of Kentucky Fried Chicken, Colonel Sanders, also makes the "Tiger Pie" cake at this cafe his favorite dish.
It all started when Harry "Tiger" Edwards were having a frustrating search for a good late-night snack, which then led him to open a caravan cafe near the front gate of the Woolloomooloo naval shipyard in Sydney, Australia. He named it 'Harry's Café de Wheels.'
The naming 'Harry's Café de Wheels' was a bit brave at the time as local city laws required it to move caravans a minimum of 12 inches daily. His bravery and proven skills as a boxer earned him the nickname "Tiger" - a name passed down to his iconic cake - which is still served at its original location in Woolloomooloo.
