In one corner of Seoul, there is the Graphic bookstore designed by OONN and U.LAB. This new bookstore brings a unique and captivating atmosphere, specifically dedicated to showcasing collections of graphic novels, comics, as well as art and design books.

Located around Gyeongridan-gil in Itaewon, amidst the waves of gentrification, Graphic breathes fresh air into the area, becoming the center of attention every day.

Even on weekdays, Graphic is never without a long queue adorning its entrance. Interestingly, Graphic is only open three days a week, namely Tuesday to Thursday from 1:00 PM to 11:00 PM KST.

The four-story building, designed by architect OONN Metaworks, and the space and brand design studio U.LAB under the leadership of Kim Jong-u's team, has captured attention with its striking cream-colored exterior.

From a distance, no windows are visible on its facade, creating a mysterious impression that stands out among the brick-walled flat buildings nearby.

Graphic's uniqueness extends beyond its visually appealing exterior to a meticulously thought-out interior design. Kim Jong-u, the designer, reveals that his inspiration came from an old book inherited from his grandfather.

The worn and uneven pages inspired the creation of the building's exterior, resembling intricate vertical strokes. This concept became a reality through collaboration with Chinese ceramic artist Wen Ping.

The floors, forming a quarter cylinder, are stacked like layers of a cake, narrowing as the building rises. Another distinctive feature is the windows located on the ceiling, providing natural lighting and a unique view for visitors.

Kim explains that the building "turns its back on Namsan" and lacks a typical view, creating a different experience in a city dominated by apartment blocks.

Graphic not only offers visually appealing design but also a commitment to ensuring architecture aligns with human behavior and needs. This is evident in the interior design, carefully considering people's reading positions, from lying down to sitting with hands supporting the chin.

What makes Graphic even more unique is its curated collection, including graphic novels, comics, and art and design books, featuring works from renowned publishers like TASCHEN. Additionally, there is a bar serving whisky, adding to the diverse offerings.

With its combination of unique design, a distinctive concept, and a classic ambiance, Graphic is not just a place to acquire high-quality reading material but also a captivating destination for art and design enthusiasts amid the ever-changing vibrancy of Seoul.
