Merangin Geopark in Merangin Regency, Jambi is one of several UNESCO Global Geoparks in Indonesia. With unique flora fossils originating from ancient rock formations, this Geopark is a natural and educational tourism destination.
Located in the Mount Masurai area, 2,900 meters above sea level, Merangin also has a karst landscape formed in the Mesozoic era, around 252 to 66 million years ago.
Location and Access to Merangin Geopark
Merangin Geopark covers 12 of the 14 sub-districts in Merangin Regency, making it a large area in the middle of Sumatra Island. To reach this location, visitors can use private or public vehicles from Jambi City, with a travel time of around 5-6 hours.

Merangin Geopark is open every day, with the best time to visit is in the morning or afternoon. Visitors are advised to come early to avoid the fog in the mountainous area.

Ancient Flora Fossils
The main attraction of Merangin Geopark is the ancient flora fossils found throughout the area. The plant fossils come from the Permian era, more than 300 million years ago, and are recognized as one of the most complete collections of flora fossils in the world. Ancient Karst of the Mesozoic Era
