Museum Van Gogh

The Van Gogh Museum is a museum named after the famous painter Van Goh. The museum houses the world's largest collection of Van Gogh paintings, along with drawings & letters.

The Van Gogh Museum will exhibit Dutch painter Vincent Van Gogh's 15 olive grove paintings for the first time in an exclusive show.

"It's unique," the museum's director, Emilie Gordenker, said Wednesday in Amsterdam. "These beautiful paintings demonstrate van Gogh's love for nature and his belief in entertainment through art."

The painter himself counted these works among the best and most important of his time in southern France.

The Dutch artist (1853-1890) painted olive groves during his stay in the asylum in Saint-Remy-de-Provence in 1889. He suffered from depression and possibly severe psychosis.

Van Gogh painted trees from different perspectives, at different times of year and day. Some are done in the studio, many in the field. He experimented with colors, shapes and techniques.

The olive grove first became the property of his brother Theo after the painter's death. Today they are in 11 collections, mainly in Europe and the US. According to the museum, they are rarely or never loaned out.

They are scheduled to perform in Amsterdam from March 11 to June 12.
