Airbus introduced a new aircraft design with the blended wing concept at the Singapore Airshow 2020. Different from the traditional wing design where the body and wings are separate, in this new aircraft model, the fuselage and wings are integrated.

This new design allows the aircraft to save up to 20 percent of fuel, increase cabin space and reduce cabin noise.

After almost three years of research, Airbus successfully carried out a flight test using a prototype model measuring 2m x 3m in June 2019 called “MAVERIC” (Model Aircraft for Validation and Experimentation of Robust Innovative Control). This small demonstration includes a thorough set of tests. Further testing will be conducted to see how the aircraft performs under various conditions.
