This holiday season, we wanted to make your wish for a white Christmas come true. Some of us search the sky for reindeer and others scan for snow. While we can't control when or if we'll get snow, we've revealed some of the best places to spend Christmas in the USA where there's a jolly good chance for snow.
1. Aspen, Colorado
Aspen has a 100 percent white Christmas record, promising you a merry little Christmas. Do the following traditions to get in the Christmas spirit: Celebrate the Norse God of Snow at Ullr Nights with snowtubing, campfires, and Ullr's ghost ship; countdown to Christmas at 12 Days of Aspen with holiday activities all over town; and sing along with carolers in Santa's Village at Snowmass Mall and Base Village.
Come to Mammoth Lakes in December and enjoy the following activities: take the Village Gondola as fireworks go off during Night of Lights, take part in the Mammoth Holiday Festivities, and venture on a December Full Moon Snowshoe Tour at Tamarack XC Ski Center.
If you'd like to wake up on Christmas morning to snow-covered ground, make your way to Anchorage. This city has had 31 consecutive white Christmases! Get in the holiday spirit by following some traditions: Stroll along the illuminated animal displays at Zoo Lights at the Alaska Zoo, sipping hot cocoa while eying ice formations at Holiday Lights in the Garden, and catching A Christmas Carol at the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts.
You’ll be pressed to find a more whimsical Christmas setting than Tahoe blanketed in fresh snow. To get into the holiday spirit, try these fun activities: Climb aboard a Borges sleigh ride and trot along the path between Merry Wonderland and the Village. Warm up inside and catch the “Twisted Nutcracker and the Tale of the Rat King” at Olympic Village Lodge. Indulge in the merriment at Heavenly Holidays Family Festival with contests, games and crafts for all ages.
While Chicago doesn't have the highest chances of a white Christmas, it's undeniably magical when it does snow. The average low temperature for December is 24 degrees F, so snow is not off the table. To get in the holiday spirit, try some of these traditions: Head to Navy Pier for the Fifth Third Bank Winter WonderFest, where you can sample hot spiced wine and browse vendors. Or check out Christkindlmarket Chicago, which dazzles like a European Christmas village. And if theater is more your speed, check out "’Twas the Night Before Christmas" at the Broadway Playhouse.
