Both cute and delicious!
Shirohige Cream Puff Factory is a cute and cozy bakery cafe in the Setagaya / Shimo-Kitazawa area of western Tokyo. They serve Totoro cream cakes - one of the most beloved Japanese anime characters - which are not only delicious, but also super cute. For fans of Studio Ghibli and the animated film My Neighbor Totoro , this Shirohige cafe is a place you must visit.
This Shirohige Cream Cake Factory is officially licensed by Studio Ghibli. The owner of the cafe/bakery is actually the brother-in-law of the famous Studio Ghibli founder/director, Hayao Miyazaki, who gave them the official rights to produce Totoro-themed food. That makes Shirohige unique because this is the only cafe that has Totoro cakes. As you approach the cafe, it feels as if you are stepping into the warm and beautiful animated world of My Neighbor Totoro.
Inside the Shirohige Cream Cake Factory
Once inside, downstairs is a bakery where they sell Totoro cakes and other items that you can buy as souvenirs. Beautiful, unique and official items are sold here, and you won't find it anywhere else.
Upstairs, you will be welcomed into a cozy cafe where you can relax, and enjoy afternoon tea while enjoying cream puff pastry.
This Totoro Cream Puff Cake costs JPY 500 (IDR 65,000). There are three flavors: custard, chocolate, and caramelized banana. The only problem is that this cake is too cute that you might not have the heart to bite it..
Shirohige Cream Puff Factory is a must-visit destination if you come to Japan especially for Studio Ghibli fans.
