The Great Sand Dunes are a must-visit for every park visitor. These massive dunes can reach heights of up to 750 feet, and are a stunning sight to behold.

One of the most popular activities in Great Sand Dunes National Park is hiking to the top of the High Dune. This hike is not for the faint hearted, as it is a strenuous uphill hike. However, the view from the top will be "worth it" and worth the effort. From the High Dune, you can see all the other dunes in the park, as well as the Sangre de Cristo Mountains in the distance.

If you are looking for a more relaxing activity, you can try sand sledding. This activity is great for all ages and can be done right in the park. There are many different ways to sand sled, but the most popular method is to use a sled or inner tube. All you need is a sled and sand, and you're good to go!

The best time to go sand sledding is in the morning or late afternoon, when the sun is less intense and temperatures are cooler. During the day, the sand can get very hot, making it difficult to sled.

To get started, you need to find a good spot in the dunes. Once you've found a spot, dig a small ditch in the sand with your hands or feet. This will be your starting point. Next, lie down on your sled or inner tube and position yourself at the top of the trench. Then, push with your feet and start sliding down the dunes!

If you want to go faster, you can try lying on your stomach or standing on a sled or underbelly. Be careful not to go too fast, as you could lose control and fall.
