Construction of Anitkabir began 9 October 1944. Construction took nine years to complete in 1953. There are four main sections of Anitkabir, namely Lion Street, Victory Square, The Hall of Honor and the garden of peace surrounding the monument.

The Hall of Honor is located to the left of the open field and is an iconic symbol of Anitkabir itself, as this is where Atatürk's tomb is located. The structure of The Hall of Honor extends sideways with a length of 41.65 m and a width of 57.35 m, and rises to a height of 17 m from an open field.
