Al-Akbar National Mosque is the second largest mosque in Indonesia after the Istiqlal Mosque in Jakarta.
Al-Akbar National Mosque is the second largest mosque in Indonesia after the Istiqlal Mosque in Jakarta. The location of this mosque is in the Pagesangan Village area, Jambangan District, Surabaya City and right next to the Surabaya-Gempol Toll Road.
Al-Akbar National Mosque Surabaya was built on August 4, 1995, on the idea of the then Mayor of Surabaya, H. Soenarto Soemoprawiro. The construction of this mosque was marked by the laying of the first stone by Indonesian Vice President Try Sutrisno.
In 1999, the mosque was rebuilt and completed in 2001. On November 10, 2000, the mosque was inaugurated by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, KH Abdurahman Wahid. The hallmark of this mosque is its turquoise dome, the material used for this dome is the same as that used in several major mosques such as the Selangor Grand Mosque in Shah Alam. Another characteristic of this giant mosque is the entrance to the room of the tall and large mosque and its mihrab is the mihrab of the largest mosque in Indonesia.
Construction
The architectural design of MAS was carried out by a team from the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology Surabaya with expert consultants who have experience in building large mosques in Indonesia. There are no less than 2000 piles for the foundation of this mosque.
Mosque Gate
The frame is made of an iron frame covered with wood which is connected to hinges or slots that have been aligned with the structure and aesthetics of the mosque. To meet the comfort and aesthetics of the mosque building, marble from Lampung was chosen for wall and floor coverings in the mosque.
So that the support from the floor feels once the room becomes cool and dirty. Calligraphy is an important element in the design of this mosque, because it is this calligraphy touch that gives a touch of Islamic nuance. The material used for the calligraphy is made of teak wood with a ducco system paint finish.
Mosque Tower
Al Akbar National Mosque is also synonymous with tower buildings which add to the magnificent impression of this mosque. To build this mosque tower, Slip Form technology from Singapore was used which took about 2 months to cast.
The Mosque Hall
The hall area is approximately 520 m2, with paving stone flooring, which is specially designed for the Al Akbar National Mosque in Surabaya, the design motifs are made according to the architectural ornaments of the mosque, and the motif lines are made parallel to the rows of rows in the mosque's courtyard. The stained glass decoration used in this mosque is made with a triple-glazed unit system.
