During the Indonesia-Malaysia confrontation (1963-1966), Wisma Indonesia was seized by the Malaysian government and returned to Indonesia in 1965 after the separation of Singapore from Malaysia.

In 1983, following a land swap and compensation agreement between the Indonesian government and the Singaporean side, the building was demolished for the construction of a shopping and office complex on Orchard Road now known as Wisma Atria. The Indonesian Embassy was moved to a new complex on Chatsworth Road as part of the agreement.
