Good news for those of you planning to travel to Taiwan in the near future! The Taiwanese government has plans worth NTD 5.3 billion to attract around six million foreign tourists this year. They hope this plan will help the tourism sector and the economy affected by the pandemic recover. These incentives also encourage local spending following COVID-19 restrictions.

The proposed spending plan comes after Taiwan fully opens up to international tourists. Officials say the package has been planned for a long time but it will take time to implement the plan.

Foreign passport holders who visit Taiwan for a minimum of three days and a maximum of 90 days can participate in the program, which involves distributing 500,000 vouchers. Half of the vouchers will be distributed this year, while the entire program will continue until 2025. To participate, travelers must first register on a designated website that will be launched on May 1st.

The travel vouchers will be distributed through a lucky draw at four airports in Taiwan: Taoyuan International Airport, Songshan Airport, Taichung International Airport, and Kaohsiung International Airport. Winners can claim their vouchers by presenting the necessary documentation at the airport check-in counter or at the Tourism Bureau office.

The Winner Get 2 Voucher Options

Recipients of the vouchers can choose how they want to use them, either for accommodation or as a stored-value payment card like iPass or EasyCard. However, those who opt for the latter can only use the card to pay for vendors that accept it. The maximum amount per payment is NTD 1,500, and daily spending is limited to NTD 3,000. On the other hand, those who prefer to use the voucher for accommodation will receive five vouchers worth NTD 1,000 each.

The vouchers are non-transferable and can only be used by the winners. If the accommodation cost is lower than the value of the voucher, the hotel cannot refund the difference. Next year, 1.5 million vouchers will be distributed, followed by 100,000 vouchers in 2025.
