An airline from Taiwan, China Airlines is often mistaken for many people to be from the People's Republic of China. To change that perception, Taiwan's Parliament passed a proposal to rebrand the island's largest airline.

China Airlines is often confused with Air China - the national airline of the People's Republic of China. During this Covid-19 pandemic, Taiwan, which has been successful in overcoming this outbreak, has sent medical assistance abroad in the form of diplomatic activities using China Airlines aircraft, but many people think that the aid comes from China.

The main purpose of this rebranding is to make China Airlines more identifiable by the international community as originating from Taiwan, said the speaker of the Taiwan parliament, Yu Shyi-kun. However, some experts think the airline's renaming might provoke China, especially if the name Taiwan is added.

After the Chinese Civil War, the defeated Kuomintang (KMT) nationalist party fled to Taiwan. Until now, Beijing still views Taiwan as part of its territory.
