Sukuh Temple was founded in the 15th century AD during the reign of the Queen of Majapahit named Suhita, who served from 1429-1446 and was referred to as 'The Last Temple.'

The name for this temple is because it is the last temple relic of the Hindus during the Majapahit era. Establishing a temple is intended for healing, warding off or releasing negative forces that can affect one's life. From the conjecture itself, it can be seen in the reliefs that contain the stories of the healing found in the temple.

Sukuh Temple was first discovered in 1815 by Johnson, a Resident of Surakarta. At the beginning of finding it, Johnson only did research to collect data to write the book The History Of Java conducted by Thomas Stamford Raffles.
