Somba Opu Fort was built in 1525 by the 9th Sultan of Gowa, Daeng Matanre Karaeng Tumapa'risi Kallonna, as a center of government and spice trade. With an area of 113,590 square meters, this fort was a busy international port before destroyed by the VOC in the 17th century.
Inside the fort area, there is a museum that houses various historical artifacts, including traditional weapons, household equipment, and important documents from the Gowa Kingdom. This museum is ideal for learning about the history and cultural heritage of South Sulawesi.
