The Fuji Shibazakura Festival (富士芝桜まつり, Fuji Shibazakura Matsuri) is one of the best and most popular events across the country for viewing shibazakura (pink moss or moss phlox in English). The festival venue is located about three kilometers south of Lake Motosuko in the Fuji Five Lakes area, offering stunning views of the vast shibazakura fields, with Mount Fuji in the background on a clear day.

This festival is usually held from mid-April to early June. The best time to see flowers varies from year to year but usually falls in the first three weeks of May. About 800,000 shibazakura sticks of five varieties are on display, producing beautiful fields of pink, white and purple in a variety of colors. Festival stalls selling pink moss pots, shibazakura-themed souvenirs, food and local produce complete the experience.

Apart from beautiful flowers, Shibazakura Flower Park also has a number of other attractions including a food court, observation deck, and shops selling local goods. There is also an area where you can try traditional Japanese arts and crafts such as calligraphy and origami.

As the Fuji Shibazakura Festival venue can get very crowded due to its popularity, it is advisable to avoid visiting on weekends or during the Golden Week holidays. Visiting in the morning is usually good to avoid traffic jams and for good visibility, although lighting for photos tends to be better in the afternoon.
