Milan Cathedral or Duomo di Milano in Italian is a cathedral church located in the city of Milan, Lombardy province, Italy. This cathedral was built over a period of nearly six centuries. The construction process began in 1386 and was completed in 1965.

Duomo di Milano is the largest church in Italy and the fifth largest in the world. This church is dedicated to the Nativity of Our Lady (Santa Maria Nascente).

This gothic-style cathedral has the most statues in the world, there are 3,400 statues, 135 gargoyles, and 700 figures that adorn the Duomo di Milano. The roof of the cathedral is open to visitors. For a fee, visitors can go up and get up close to some of the spectacular statues and stunning views of all of Milan and even the snow capped peaks of the Alps. You can also see the Madonnina, a golden statue of Mary that stands at the top of the cathedral tower.

This church can accommodate up to 40,000 congregations. The interior of the Milan Cathedral has a grand and elegant interior made of large dark marble slabs. Around the church are paintings that adorn the walls of the temple, the skeletons of various saints nestled in glass coffins, all dressed in their finest clothes.

Inside the church, there is also a statue of Saint Bartholomew, one of the martyrs.

The most valuable object kept in the Duomo in the dome behind the altar, is one of the nails used during Christ's Crucifixion. This nail is only shown to the public once a year, on the Saturday approaching the 14th of September.
