Location and Route to Lake Kelimutu
Lake Kelimutu is located on Mount Kelimutu, Pemo Village, Kelimutu District, Ende Regency. Located 1,639 meters above sea level, this lake is included in the Kelimutu National Park area.
To reach the location, tourists can access it by land from Ende City or Moni. The best route is through Ende City which is about 2 hours away by car or rented motorbike.
Opening Hours and Ticket Price
Kelimutu National Park is open every day from 06.00 to 12.00 WITA. Morning is the ideal time to witness the beauty of the lake at sunrise.
The entrance ticket price for domestic tourists is 5.000 IDR, while for foreign tourists the ticket is 150.000 IDR. Tickets can be purchased directly at the entrance to the national park.
Attractions of Lake Kelimutu
The main attraction of Lake Kelimutu is the exotic color phenomenon in its three craters. This lake consists of Tiwu Ata Mbupu, Tiwu Nuwa Muri Koo Fai, and Tiwu Ata Polo.
Each lake has a color that can change from blue, green, to reddish brown due to the influence of volcanic gas and unique geochemical conditions. This phenomenon makes Lake Kelimutu one of the most beautiful and mystical natural destinations in Indonesia.
The local community believes that Lake Kelimutu is a resting place for the souls of the deceased. Tiwu Ata Mbupu is believed to hold the spirits of parents, Tiwu Nuwa Muri Koo Fai for the spirits of young people, and Tiwu Ata Polo for the spirits of evil people.
Facilities at Lake Kelimutu
In the national park area, there are public facilities such as toilets, parking areas, and information centers. Lodging and restaurants are available around Moni, the closest village to Lake Kelimutu.
It is advisable to bring a warm jacket because the temperature at the peak can be very cold, especially in the morning. Don't forget to bring a camera to capture the beauty of the three-colored lake.
