Historically, Goa Lowo was discovered by the native Watuagung village Mbah Lomedjo in 1931. At that time, this cave was still covered by forest, with wild animals living in it.

Then in 1984, this place began to be treated as a tourist destination. The process is through research by Dr. Robot K Kho and Mr. Gilbert Manthovani from France, accompanied by Goa Lowo tour guide Mbah Kasidi.

The origin of the name Goa Lowo itself is because this cave is a habitat for bats. In fact, when Mbah Lomedjo found it, many bats appeared from inside the cave.

Being nominated as the longest cave in Southeast Asia is the main attraction of Goa Lowo. The length is around 2 km, but visitors can only walk via the bridge for around 850 meters. The rest can be explored by diving into the underground river.

Inside the cave, you will find stalactites and stalagmites (rocks that grow from the ceiling and bottom of the cave) of various sizes. Even though it was a bit dark, the air was not too hot and humid. Illuminated by a little light coming in from outside, you will be amazed by the view.

Arriving at the rest area, you can choose to continue your journey to the bat area and sunlight hole. The distance is about 200 meters. Here, the sound of bats can be heard clearly from their nest.
