Located in the center of Vientiane, the capital of Laos, the Pha That Luang Temple is the nation's most glittering icon. The temple is thought to date back to the 3rd century, when it is said that the breastbone of Lord Buddha was brought to the temple. Rebuilt in the 16th century by King Setthathirat (whose statue stands in front of the main entrance), this stunning stupa is covered in about 500 kg of pure gold, shimmering majestically 44 meters high.
