Asahi Plaza Capsule Hotel is the world's first capsule hotel, which opened in 1979. This hotel is located in the Umeda district of Osaka, Japan, and was designed by Kisho Kurokawa. Since then, the concept has spread to other cities in Japan and around the world including: Belgium, China, Hong Kong, Iceland, India, Indonesia, and Poland.
A capsule hotel or pod hotel is designed to meet the need for an affordable hotel room in downtown Japan. As the name implies, the facilities at this hotel are minimal and basic, namely: a bed, a TV, and a reading light.
In addition to pods or capsules, there are also public facilities at this capsule hotel, including a dining room, public bathroom, sauna room, and comic book room. To use this public facility, guests must pay an additional fee to the hotel.
Located in Minami, Americamura, Capsule Hotel Asahi Plaza Shinsaibashi is a 10 minute car ride to Osaka Science Museum and Osaka Castle. The hotel is 0.7 km from Shinsaibashi Shopping Arcade and 9.6 km from Legoland Discovery Centre.
